  • People questioning their faith or considering leaving their religious community who want a safe, confidential space to process the anxiety, fear, and uncertainty of it all
  • LGBTQ+ people who grew up in a religious environment and want to unpack years of self-hatred, shame, and fear they've carried

Does This Sounds Like You

You've left the church, you've tried to do the emotional processing, you don't believe in the same things you did back then, but you still feel like you're always doing something wrong, or that something bad is right around the corner.

You're grieving the years you weren't allowed to be yourself, and you still struggle to know who you really are.

You're living as an openly LGBTQ+ person, but you can't shake the feeling that who you are and how you live is inherently bad or wrong, despite logically knowing that what you were taught was harmful.

My Unique Approach

I work from a collaborative perspective, meaning you get to choose what you want to share and address first. Clients have described my style as warm, mixed with humor, but also focused in a way that we get to the heart of the matter.

I'll regularly slow you down and help you experience your emotions in a more intentional way. I'll also help you identify your coping patterns for difficult emotions and relationships, and have you walk me through key moments in your life tied to your faith and upbringing that shaped your self-image and worldview.

We'll try to revisit these memories in a way that lets you feel differently about them, and ideally about yourself. We'll also identify younger, more vulnerable versions of you who didn't get the care and love they needed back then. By talking to these versions of yourself and feeling what they couldn't feel at the time, your body and mind can reprocess painful emotions in a way that changes how you experience emotion in the present.

I worked at a group practice where the main clinical focus was religious trauma therapy. While there, I worked with clients coming out of a range of religious backgrounds and high-control environments, including Church of God, Jehovah's Witnesses, Pentecostal, and Church of Christ.

What You Can Expect

We'll work through this in three stages. In the beginning, I'll want to understand your personal background, get to know each other, identify your patterns for coping and regulating, and help you manage current challenges in a better way.

In the middle stage, we'll explore deeper emotions connected to your faith and upbringing, reconnect with younger parts of yourself, and develop new emotional responses to current stressors and triggers.

By the end, we'll review the progress you've made, go through some maintenance sessions, and send you on your way to live your life. Through this process, you can reasonably expect the ups and downs of life to feel less intense, develop stronger self-esteem and self-awareness, and feel more certain in who you are and what you want out of life.
